For those who prefer real gold, we offer two types of gold earring hooks: K10 (10 karat gold) and K14GF (14 karat gold filled). Since the total gold content differs for each, their color and hardness also vary.

K10...Composed of 42% pure gold and 58% alloy (such as silver, copper, palladium). Due to its lower pure gold content, it's a gold material that can be enjoyed at a relatively affordable price.
K14GF...A material where 14 karat gold is pressure-bonded onto a base metal such as brass. Since the surface layer of 14 karat gold is thick, it boasts higher durability than plating. Due to its lower gold content, it is affordable and is a material also adopted by high-end jewelry brands overseas.

We compared the gold-colored earring hooks available at Idios. K18, with its higher pure gold content, boasts a deep hue and luxurious shine. Its high gold content is said to make it resistant to oxidation and discoloration.
K10, compared to K18, has a slightly yellowish gold hue. Due to a higher proportion of alloy, it is considered harder and more scratch-resistant than K18. Those concerned about allergies should be careful due to the higher alloy content.
K14GF has a more yellowish gold hue compared to K18 and K10. Since its surface is 14 karat gold, it is considered less likely to cause allergies than plated items.
For those concerned about metal allergies with K18, K10, or K14GF materials, we recommend Surgical Stainless Steel 316L. For more details, please visit the Surgical Stainless Steel 316L page.
